VINA DEL MAR, Chile (Reuters) - Center-left world leaders including Britain's Gordon Brown and Brazil's Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Saturday called for global financial reforms at next week's G20 summit, but the U.S. warned against over-regulation.
Meeting in the Chilean coastal resort of Vina del Mar in a pre-G20 warm-up, Brown, Lula, host Chilean President Michelle Bachelet and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said deep financial reforms were vital to avert a another financial meltdown.
"The whole world is paying the price for the collapse of a reckless venture of those that have turned the world economy into a gigantic casino," Lula told fellow leaders in a roundtable discussion.
"We are rejecting blind faith in the markets."
Brown said the G20 summit in London had to focus on concrete ways to revive growth and create jobs while protecting the environment and the world's poor.
"We have got to be very clear that banking cannot be unsupervised any more; there's got to be cross border supervision," he said, calling for an overhaul of the system of international finance and coordinated policies to help underpin sustainable growth.

U.S. President Barack Obama has called on fellow G20 leaders to agree on immediate action to help boost the struggling global economy,  while Brown wants the group to back a $100 billion expansion of trade financing and agree upon a long-delayed global trade pact.
U.S. Vice President Joe Biden told the meeting overlooking Chile's Pacific coast the United States was eager to coordinate international policy to reduce systemic risk to global markets, but warned over-regulation could hurt healthy markets.

"We should not over-react. It is not a choice of markets or governments," Biden said. "A free market still needs to be able to function."
Thousands of people marched in Britain, France, Germany and Italy on Saturday to protest the economic crisis and urge world leaders to act to reduce poverty, create jobs and avert climate change at the G20 summit.
"We have to democratize the economy, globalization and the financial system. How to do this? We already know: with information, transparency and responsibility," Zapatero said.

For any given task in Britain there are more men than are needed. Strong unions keep them there in Fleet Street, home of some London’s biggest dailies, it is understood that when two unions quarrel over three jobs, the argument is settled by giving each union two. Thru means 33 per cent over manning, 33 per cent less productivity than could be obtained.
A reporter who has visited plants throughout Europe has an impression that the pace of work is much slower here. Nobody tries tm hard. Tea breaks do matter and are frequent. It is hard to measure intensity of work, but Britons give a distinct impression of going at their tasks in a more leisurely way.wow power leveling,
But is all this so terrible? It certainly does not improve the gross national product or output per worker. Those observant visitors, however, have noticed something else about Britain. It is a pleasant place.
Street crowds in Stockholm. Paris and New York move quickly and silently heads down, all in a hurry. London crowds tend to walk at an easy pace (except in the profitable, efficient City, the financial district).
world of warcraft power leveling,
Every stranger is struck by the patient and orderly way in which Britons queue for a bus; if the saleswoman is slow and out of stock she will likely say,‘oh dear, what a pity’; the rubbish collectors stop to chat and call the housewives“Luv”. Crime rises here as in every city but there still remains a gentle tone and temper that is unmatched in Berlin, Milan or Detroit. It short, what is wrong with Britain may also be what is right. Having reached a tolerable standard, Britons appear to be choosing leisure over goods.56. The all-star blockbuster film "The Founding of a Republic," featuring 80 A-listers in a tribute to the country's 60th anniversary, premiered Wednesday and won applause from moviegoers.
replica rolex
The 130-minute film casts heavyweights from China's movie industry such as Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Zhang Ziyi, director Feng Xiaogang and many others as some of the historical figures taking stage during the founding of the People's Republic of China 60 years ago. John Woo, a famous director from Hong Kong, had one or two takes in the movie, but they were cut in the final version.
The star-gathering movie was previously scheduled to debut today, but hit cinemas in big cities at 2 pm yesterday afternoon in advance.

Before the movie came out, fans were questioning whether the many stars would hurt the plot's development, but most viewers seemed to be satisfied with the story.

China Daily conducted a quick survey of 20 moviegoers who showed up at the premiere in Mega Box Cinema, Sanlitun, in downtown Beijing. Seventeen gave the film a score of 8 or higher out of 10, saying the plot was perfectly developed, and that all the stars were giving their best performances.
The 20 interviewees were all aged between 23 and 35. Fifteen said that they went to the movie mainly just to see the stars, but then discovered that the plot was quite good. Online forum surveys also confirmed the positive feedback.

The film focuses on the years between 1945 and 1949, when the Communists, led by Mao Zedong fought with Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalists, after the failed effort to set up a democratic coalition government.

Also, it gives a detailed depiction of how in 1948 the Communists organized the first meeting of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), which today still serves as an important political advisory body.
Liu Zeyu, 28, an IT consultant, took a half-day off work just to see the movie. "I was not familiar with that period of history. The movie helped me understand it deeper. Stars are really acting well, but I am more attracted to the story. It is a story of love, war, conspiracy, and motherland - all elements in blockbuster movies. But this one is special, as it is more of a documentary to me," says Liu.
For history lover Zhang Xiping, 34, the movie is more entertaining. "I learned this history when I was a student, but I didn't know some of those details, for example, that Mao Zedong once met a sneak attack. Audiences will find more interesting details as the movie goes on," he says.
Though it is a serious movie about the country's history, the audience laughed when certain actors made appearances in the film. A-listers included Fan Wei, acting as a chef; Wang Baoqiang, as a soldier; Ge You, as a commander.

The Selfish Giant

Every afternoon, as the children were coming back from school, they used to go and play in the giant's garden.

It was a beautiful large garden. Beautiful flowers grew in the grass. There were twelve fruit trees. In the spring the fruit trees were covered with red and white flowers, and later in the year they bore rich fruit. The birds sang in the trees so sweetly that sometimes the children stopped their games and listened to them. "How happy we are here!" they cried to each other.
world of warcraft power leveling,
One day the giant came back. He had been away for seven years. When he arrived, he saw the children playing in his garden. "What are you doing here?" he cried in a very loud voice. The children ran away.

"My own garden is my own garden," said the giant. "I will allow no one to play in it but myself. "So he built a high wall round it and put up a notice: Keep out. He was a very selfish giant.
world of warcraft gold,
So the children had nowhere to play. They tried to play on the road, but the road was dusty and full of hard stone, and they did not like it. They wandered round the high walls when their lessons were finished and talked about the beautiful garden inside. "How happy we were there!" they said to each other.

The spring came, and there were flowers and little birds all over the country. But in the garden of the Selfish Giant it was till winter the birds did not like to sing in it because there were no children, and the trees forgot to bear flowers. Snow covered up the grass, and ice covered all the trees with silver. The north wind came, and driving rain.
replica rolex,
"I can't understand why the spring is so late in coming," said the Selfish Giant as he sat at the window of his house and looked out at his cold white garden. "I hope that there will be a change in the weather."

But the spring never came, nor the summer. When there was golden fruit in every other garden, there was no fruit in the the giant's garden. It was always winter there with the north wind, and snow, and ice, and driving rain.

The giant was lying in bed one morning when he heard some beautiful music. It was a little bird singing outside his window. It was so long since he had heard the song of a bird that it seemed to him the most beautiful music in the world. Then the north wind and the rain stopped.
wedding dress,
"I believe that spring has come at last!" said the giant. He jumped out of bed and looked out.

What did he see?

He saw a most wonderful sight. The children had come in though a hole in the wall and were sitting in the branches of the trees. There was a little child in every tree that he could see. The trees were so glad to have the children back that they had covered themselves with flowers: the birds were flying about and singing with joy, and flowers were looking up through the green grass.

A little boy was standing in the farthest corner of the garden. He was so small that he could not reach up to the branches of the tree, but was wandering round it and weeping. That tree was still covered with ice and snow.replica watches,

"How selfish I have been!" said the giant. "Now I know why the spring would not come here. I'll put the little boy on the top of the tree. Then I'll pull down the wall and my garden shall be a children's playground for ever." He was really sorry for what he had done.

So he went down: he opened the door very quietly, and went out into the garden. But, when the children saw him, they were afraid and ran away. Only the little boy did not run: his eyes were so full of tears that he did not see the giant coming. The giant came quietly behind him. He took the little boy gently in his hand and put him up into the tree. Then the tree was suddenly covered with flowers, and the birds came and sang in it, and the little boy put his arms round the giant's neck and kissed him.

"You must tell him to come tomorrow, he must come tomorrow." "We don't know where he lives. We had never seen him before." The giant felt very sad.

Every afternoon when school ended, the children came and played with the giant. But the little boy whom the giant loved was never seen again. The giant was very kind to all the children, but he did want to see his first little friend. "How much I would like to see him!" he said.
